• Kahu Charlie Kama

Charlie Kama was born on the Big Island and has been married to his lovely wife Mapu for 39 awesome years. They have three children, 2 sons, Caz, Sam and 1 daughter, Kui. They have nine wonderful grandchildren who they truly enjoy.

Charlie grew up on the streets of Panaewa and Keaukaha.  He enjoyed playing and coaching team sports such as basketball, football and volleyball. He loves spending time watching his grandchildren playing sports and enjoys the beach. And he, being a part of the streets, Charlie got caught up in the drug scene and was incarcerated.  It was in prison that God got a hold of Charlie’s heart and he gave his life over to Jesus.  Charlie has been serving in the Prison Ministry for over 18 years.  He was “called” to be Kahu in 2006.

In 2016, God called Kahu Charlie to plant a church in his hometown of Keaukaha/Panaewa, to come home and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to his ohana, his friends and the community.  In Mark 5:19, Jesus told him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”  Kahu Charlie’s heart is to reach the lost and those hurting in our community.  To tell them about the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the New Life he offers everyone.  Thus, we have “Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou, “A New life Church”

Along with my wife Tammy, it is an honor and privilege to serve at Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou. It has been an amazing journey that our Lord has put us on in the last 10 years. My wife and I both come from New Hope Hilo, “The Gathering Place”, under Pastor Alex Pacheco, when God called us to Kauai to serve at New Hope Kauai under Pastor Matt Higa for 7 complete years. It was in 2016 that God would call us back to Hilo to help Kahu Charlie Kama open up Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou.  You could call it God’s “full circle” as I got my start in ministry serving along side of Kahu Charlie 15 years ago.

Tammy and I are blessed to have 2 sons, 2 daughters, and 7 beautiful grandbabies.  Tammy and I love to travel and to cook, to try out different cuisines. Our heart is truly to reach the lost, and help them discover God’s plans and purposes for their lives thru a personal relationship with Jesus.

  • Kahu Alex Pacheco

Alex Pacheco, was a full-time commercial fisherman before God called him to become a “Fisher of Men.”  He began ministry with a short tenure as a staff pastor at New Hope Christian Fellowship in Hilo, Hawaii. In 1990, he was sent out to the neighboring community of Pahoa to pioneer New Hope Puna. Through faith and prayer many miracles occurred there including God’s provision for an 18 acre parcel of land upon which the Puna church now stands.

Alex returned to New Hope Hilo in 1997 in the position of Senior Pastor. Under his leadership, the church grew to 1700 people, became debt-free and raised up a new generation of leaders.  Alex also served as Supervisor of the Pacific Rim District for 3 years, overseeing 55 Foursquare churches across the state of Hawaii.

Now retired, Alex continues to enjoy fishing. He and his wife Berna, have been married for 50 years. They have four children, Kaleo, Aaron, Joy and Lena, 5 granddaughters and 3 grandsons AND 2 great-grandsons.  They now are a part of Hale Pule Ke Ola Hou where they serve faithfully.
